Astronomy Day 2001

The sun set in a clear blue sky over the springtime green of St. Jacob Park—what a treat to enjoy perfect stargazing weather for our first public event. Crowd-pleasers that evening included views of the moon, Jupiter, and stars through a variety of telescopes. Club members fielded the questions of visitors from around the St. Louis area, who strolled between the educational displays in the pavilion, the field of telescopes, and the scale-model planet walk. After dark, children gathered to watch “Lunar TV”: a live telescopic image of the moon’s surface displayed on a video monitor.
